Lima: ADI opens new photographic exhibition in Peruvian Congress

En Español

ADI held a successful press conference on 24 November to launch its new photography exhibition about circus animal abuse. The event which was held in the Congreso de la Republica del Peru aimed to highlight what goes on behind the scenes in travelling animal circuses.

ADI launched its Stop Circus Suffering campaign in South America four years ago and its investigation into the conditions that animals endure in travelling circuses in Peru has resulted in proposed legislation being tabled in the Peruvian Congress to ban animal circuses. The bills have been approved in the Agrarian and Andean Peoples Commission, now it is pending its final debate in the Plenary to become law.

The photography exhibition is designed to show the Congress the shocking conditions behind the scenes in travelling circuses and highlight how a ban could benefit Peruvian people and the animals. ADI is urging the Congress to act now and discuss the bill in the Plenary.

It was held from 24–27 November 2009 in the hemicycle hallway of the Legislative Palace, Peruvian Congress.
