Stop Circus Suffering

Back the new bill to ban wild animals in circuses!

Ask your MP today to support efforts to prohibit the use of wild animals in circuses in England

A new bill to ban wild animals in circuses in England was presented on Wednesday 10 February 2016 and is to have its Second Reading on Friday 4 March. We need your urgent help if it is to have a chance of succeeding.

Please contact your MP and urge them to support Conservative MP Will Quince’s Ten Minute Rule Motion: Wild Animals in Circuses (Prohibition) Bill.

With no timetable set by the government to bring in the ban that was promised four years ago, we must seize this opportunity to stop the suffering once and for all.

We are determined to get the legislation promised the animals, and politicians, the public and animal experts are on our side.  A similar bill championed by Animal Defenders International had overwhelming support but was blocked by just a few MPs.  We can’t let this happen again.

Circuses are gearing up to go on the road again and the animals will be forced to perform for another year. We must stop this merry go round of suffering – and the threat of yet more wild animal acts. A new big cat circus is already poised to return to England, having been prevented from doing so last year due to the inadequate living conditions the lions and tigers were forced to endure.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

I feel that all animals deserve to be in their natural habitat.

  2. Glenda Frichot · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

PLEASE take this opportunity to ban animals in circuses once and for all. The time has long passed that this was considered entertainment. It is outdated and has no place in todays society.

  3. Suzzanne · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Please help to stop their suffering

    1. Vivian · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

I, like others thought this practice had ceased in UK. perhaps people should be discouraged from attending their performances. Otherwise, do not allow them to put Posters up.

  4. Vivienne Ben-Shir · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

You have a duty & obligation to speak for those that cannot ? & make positive changes concerning all lives in this country surely ?

  6. Dianne Burke · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

These real lives should never have been stolen in the first place! Make things right by Banning all circuses using real live animals! These poor Tigers, Elephants and Bears deserve a better chance, without beatings, tiny cramped quarters and other terrible traumatic abuses. BAN CIRCUSE ENSLAVEMENT FOREVER!

  7. Andrea · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Ban all wild animals in the circus because it’s the RIGHT THING TO DO – their torture and captivity should not be a source of entertainment for us STOP THE MADNESS

  8. Karen Fine · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

ALL ZOO’S CIRCUSES PRIVATE PLACES SHOWING ILLEGAL EXOTICS MUST BE SHUT DOWN NOW! ANIMALS HAVE SOULS JUST LIKE HUMANS. ANIMALS DO NOTHING WRONG TO BE INCARCERATED THEIR WHOLE LIVES. I PRAY ALL KIND CARING LOVING SANCTUARIES GO SAVE ALL ANIMALS IN THESE COOPED UP PLACES AND TAKE THEM ALL TO THEIR WONDERFUL NEW HOMES AT THE SAFE SANCTUARIES NOW! NO PLACES LIKE THE YANKEE JUNGLE, WE CAN’T HAVE HUMANS INTERACTING WITH ANIMAL EXCEPT WITH LOVING ADULTS TAKING CARE OF THEM ONLY! AMEN.

  9. Hazel Shoemaker · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

They have all suffered too much. We do not need this in today’s society. Let them be FREE animals & no more torture.

  10. Pamela Webb · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

I wrote to Tobias Elwood my MP asking for his support and he said he couldn’t support the Bill until he had considered all the facts. I pointed out that 3 Tory MPs, one being the MP for Christchurch Dorset repeatedly voted against the Bill each time it was discussed. I asked why 3 people could stop a majority, he didn’t comment.

    1. ADI Admin Post author· 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Hi Pamela, we would be happy to send Mr Elwood information on the suffering of wild animals in circuses and our web page http://www.ad-international.org/animals_in_entertainment/go.php?id=1484&ssi=10 provides a useful overview. Please note that the big cats formerly with Peter Jolly’s Circus are now with a new circus which toured Wales last year and is planning to come to England.

  11. Carole Riteour · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

It’s the 21st century, time to stop this. Like any form of slavery, we must evolve beyond it.

  12. June Taylor · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Do unto others (including all innocent and defenseless Beloved Animals) as you would have them do unto you …

  13. LUCINDA VEJAR · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

This suffering is immoral and only humans can stop this cruelty.

  14. Frances · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

PLEASE SUPPORT IN SAVING THESE ANIMALS FROM CIRCUS’.! THEY SUFFER DEARLY MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. NO WILDLIFE SHOULD BE OUT OF THEIR HABITAT!

  15. gilles gosselin · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Wild animals belong in the wild period.

  16. Maureen Fudger · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

With the severe decimation of wildlife and the brutal treatment of animals in captivity, it is well overdue to stop it completely. It is 2016 and posterity will deem us as ignorant, savage barbarians. ENOUGH.

  17. Mrs t l Haskell desmond · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Please this needs to stop now……..they lose the right to live out their lives naturally so some humans can pay to watch creatures beaten and abused into performing for their lives and spend it in small cages …..this is the 21century and some of these animal are being exploited beyond belief ……….end these cruel shows now b4 it’s to late

  18. kris noble · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Wild animals do not belong in any circus – it is abusive to animals to be caged 24-7 when they should be in their homeland with their family. Please back the bill to ban wild animals in circuses in England

  19. richard Trees · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

should have been stopped years ago. it has no place in a supposedly civilised society!

  20. Sharon · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

I’ve emailed my MP Jeff Smith (South Manchester), shared on all my social sites and added a blog post that links directly to this page on our Action for Nosey Now Blog ~ Fingers crossed they make the right decision for all the animals still suffering & put an end to this once & for all! The ban should have been passed a long time ago!

  21. Patricia Betty · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Cruel and unnecessary. Are we so shallow rust we need to torture animals for entertainment. This is 2016 not the dark ages. Animals are not automatons bereft of feelings. Ban all wild animal acts in circuses.

  22. Jaclyn Haggata · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

. Needs to be stopped as soon as possible.

  30. Gabrielle larson · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

I am so sickened how this still exists today.

  31. Robin · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Booo. Circus’s and Zoos are for old school ideas on how to educate kids on animals and see them and they are not for your entertainment! You tell your child. Look we can see them on the internet and learn anything you want. If we got to the circus or zoo we support a life of depression and torture. Im sure you and your kids do not want that.

  32. Victoria middleton · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Please please help to put an end to the torture of these poor innocent animals, no wild animal should be kept away from their natural environment especially for human’s so called entertainment….it’s sickening!

  33. Lois Marshall · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

    This has to stop now.

  34. Fiona Kirk · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

This is barbaric! There is no excuse for this, it has to stop!
It is cruel and completely unnecessary. Leave wild animals where they belong, in the wild.

  35. L. Carte · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Please help stop these animals from suffering . Put laws in place to prohibit these circuses.

  36. Brenda Coto · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

  38. Jennifer · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

This is cruel and in no way entertainment. Stop the cruelty!!

  39. Nomi · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Stop, PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS! Every living creature deserves a life of happiness and safety. Circuses are cruel! They’ve always been heartbreakingly cruel. These animals belong in their natural habitat. Let them be in peace. This is heartbreaking

  40. Sharon Whittle · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Circuses using animals are outdated, its time to stop it NOW .stop torturing innocent animals for entertainment and human greed

  41. Jessica Harrison · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

We need to wise up and stop acting like we own the planet and everything on it is there for our amusement. Would ypu be outraged if you saw this happening to people? Well there is no difference.

  42. Alison · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

The complete lack of ethics in how humans treat animals needs LEGISLATIVE ACTION NOW. People with no morals will exploit animals for profit, to the point where their death is mere inconvenience, with increasing outrageousness until they are penalized. Humanity must wake up to their responsibility to protect all life. If you have the power to do something and you choose not to, you have participated in torture and cruelty.

  43. Deanna · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

I think this is horrible, those poor animals. Are people that bored with their lives they want to watch these poor animals be treated like they do not matter? All animals deserve to be treated with respect, infact I respect animals more than people!

  44. anna swinney · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Stop this now. Leave them to roam free and wild where they belong . For gods sake! Every living thing deserves to live out its own life free.

  45. Terri Sako · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Boycott all circuses…. No more cruelty to animals!!

  46. Mary Russomano · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

all those people should go to prison

  47. Ian Long · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Using wild animals for entertainment is barbaric and obsolete. We should be working to maintain the environments in which they can live freely and naturally.

  48. Muriel Servaege · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Wild animals should be left (and protected) in their natural habitat.

  49. Joanne · 6 February 2016 at 6:00a

Ban all cruelty to animals! close all animal circuses! my outcome would be to treat the humans in the same way they mistreated and tortured each animal, however this isn’t possible so Prison for all humans involved! and a register listing to stop them ever working with or owning an animal again!
