Stop Circus Suffering

One MP stands in way of wild animal circus ban

Andrew Rosindell MP blocks bill for a second time

The bill to ban wild animals in circuses has been blocked by Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell at its second reading today. This is the second time that Mr Rosindell has blocked the bill, introduced by Jim Fitzpatrick MP and championed by ADI.

It is difficult to comprehend why anyone would block this popular and long-awaited legislation, sabotaging efforts to bring the suffering of circus animals finally to an end – although Mr Rosindell has previously written a brochure foreword for the now disbanded Great British Circus, where shocking elephant abuse was exposed by ADI.

Despite his support for this outdated industry, we sincerely hope Mr Rosindell will respect his constituents’ wishes, and the will of the public and fellow MPs, and not oppose the bill at its next reading on October 24th.

Despite interventions by Mr Rosindell, the circus bill still provides the best opportunity to secure the ban ahead of the general election.

Although the Government has repeatedly stated that it remains committed to ban what the Prime Minister calls an “outdated practice”, little progress has been made since the Government announced it would end the use of wild animals in circuses back in 2012. Legislation was drawn up over a year ago with a planned implementation date of December 2015, but has not progressed.

We therefore need you to keep up the pressure – please get active for the animals!

We do NOT need circuses. The animals need to be in there own habitat

  2. Nigel Goodman · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

This is costing a great deal of good will and I so you honour the pledge made as many people have long memories. Your MP has links to the circus industry which makes this even more obnoxious

  3. Barbara Giffin · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    Disgraceful but unfortunately typical.

  4. Rachel Sargent · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Ban animals in circuses. It’s outdated, unnecessary and cruel. Mr Rosindell the British Public want animals banned in circuses, why are you then opposing this ban, I believe you have links to this archaic institution. The time for change has come, stand down and let this bill pass. These animals have suffered ENOUGH.

  7. lynda howarth · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Please free these beautiful inoccent animals

  32. Sue WATSON · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

There is no need for animals to have to endure life of misery in circuses. Good circuses, and there are many of them, have human only performances. Ban circuses with animals, it is the right thing to do. The message that it gives to children, seeing animals perform in circuses, is that animals are for human entertainment. This is an outdated and cruel view. Animals have been given a life to live as nature intended, it is certainly not being imprisoned in cages until taken out to perform for the public. Put an end to animals being used in circuses.

  33. Jane Moore · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

I have this year decided for the first time to not vote Conservative again on principle, entirely due to your atrocious attitudes to animals. Like it or not, they matter to many thousands of people in the UK; the Badger cull, illegal hunting and cub flushing; to which a blind eye is turned, and the continuous self interest of MPs like Rosindell, have all resulted in this decision. Apparently this party is still in the Dark ages on animal issues; it is totally disgusting to a civilized human being to see this allowed to go on in an age of comoassion and humane values.

  34. Rebeca Coupland · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Please stop circuses with animals. It is completly unnecessary and it is not fair for the animals. There is nothing more important in life than having the freedom to run a do whatever you want. Animals in circuses are sad and forced to do tricks and stupid things that are unnatural to them. We have to take care of animals, not make them our slaves… We are here to take care of the planet not destroy it.

  35. Lisa McDermott · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Circuses are evil and vile. They ALL need to be shut down. Stop blocking this bill and shut down the circus so these animals can live the rest of their lives in a sanctuary where they will be allowed to live out the rest of their lives in the peace they deserve and cared and loved for like they deserve.

  36. elaine Neaves · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Caged animals used as entertainment, belongs in the dark ages,it’s cruel and barbaric.end this cruelty NOW.

  37. anne bourne · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Wild animals should not be used for entertainment under any circumstance. It’s cruel , inhumane and humiliating. Shame on Andrew Rosindell!

  38. G. Murali dhar · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

It is pity that Andrew Rosin dell (MP) stoped the 2nd reading of Wild Animals in Circus 2015.

  39. Lucy · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    Wrong

  40. Susan Bleach · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

in this day and age this type of torture of animals should be long gone how sad for the human race and animals that this still happens

  41. Catherine Lowe · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

This is not entertainment it’s mans greed & hell for animals!!!!

  42. suzanne callan · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Circus’s belong to the past when people were uneducated and didnt have the intelligence to realise that animals were not for their own amusement. This is 2014 we have full knowledge of the sugffering circuses cause and depriving animals of a natural peaceful life to interact normally with their own type, not to perform tricks for cheap laughs, This is disgusting a ban is needed without delay

  43. PM · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

They are alive. They feel. Would you like to be caged for life?!!

  44. jane mackinnon · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

End the use of animals in circuses.

  45. mandy popejoy · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

I will NEVER vote conservative while that idiot continues to block this bill kiss goodbye to a LOT!!! of votes

  46. Michael McKeown · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Wild animals in captivity in our age are a reproach to our supposed civilised standards. Andre Rosindell MP is clearly maladjusted but more sinister is David Cameron’s refusal to support the Bill and his subsequent ‘bullying’ of Mark Partridge MP who introduced the Bill Cameron clearly has an agenda and I should dearly like to know it.

  47. Gina Houghton · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

cannot understand the reasoning behind this?

  48. DEBRA WILLIAMS · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    well over due

  49. Neville Wells · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

I am appalled that one misguided MP, sponsored I believe by the circus “industry” can block the legal ban on the use of wild animals in British circuses which so many decent people have been pleading for so many years !

  50. Liam Bray · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Please follow through on the ban for animals used in circuses in the UK. You must realise the fear, anguish and tortured lives of relevant animals is bad enough as it is but to the majority of the British public (who are plainly ignorant and consume spoon fed, biased information) will go on with life thinking that the typical treatment of beautiful creatures is fine. But it is not. And whether you halt this bill again, you will lose eventually. You are vastly outnumbered by the people who want this ban to take place. We will not stop. You are making a mockery of your position in parliament.

  51. jemma goater · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

We needto ban circuses with animals! !

  52. sylvia bearcroft · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Wild animals should not be used for human entertainment, this is disgusting. Please back this bill which is being blocked by one of YOUR own party, Andrew Rosindell.

  53. Darcih Kiss · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Animals are beings to be respected, not exploited, hurted and killed! They are souls in progress as we are. To hurt the voiceless and helpless is disgusting and criminal!!

  54. Lynne Stephenson · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

They are wild animals and should be free

    1. Little Lynne · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Wild animals should not be made to perform

  55. Patty Taylor · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

the time has come to end the suffering…

  56. Marjorie H.Leinbaugh · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Circus animals live very unhappy lives in their cages and circus trailers. One can see the misery in their eyes. Just look the next time you encounter these miserable creatures……look in their eyes and you will see the sadness at their confinement. These majestic lions, tigers and elephants were never meant to live in tiny enclosures and do inane tricks for human enjoyment. Please reconsider and vote to release these wonderful animals to rescue groups that will treasure them as they should be treasured. Thank you.

  57. rosie slater · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    Long overdue.

  58. Cand Magee · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    Your a disgrace!

  59. mary walishko · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Conservatives will not be getting my vote !!!!

  60. Lynley mcfaull · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Ban the obscene use of animals in circuses. Cruel and sick exploitation of animals for humans’ amusement and greed is simply wrong.

  61. Shirley · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

why should one man stand in the way how would he like to live in a cage disgusting makes me so mad animals lived on this world before man so in my opinion we would be better giving the world back to the animals man is too cruel

  62. helen dixon · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

    Should be banned Poor animals

  63. helen dixon · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Poor animals they should not suffer .

  64. Jonathan Armstrong-Wilkinson · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

I am very fortunate to be able to see big cats on a regular basis as i live in Kenya…to see these beautiful animals cages is horrendous……..Animals do not belong in zoo’s or circuses, they should be free.

  65. Kathleen · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Could we turn the tables a bit here, and let this MP go and live in a circus and do the damn tricks and have NO FREEDOM!!!! Seriously, why must there always be 1 bad apple. Read up on your history and check WHO ROAMED THE PLANET FIRST!!!!!

  66. lynn hill · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Using animals like this..is abuse. It needs to stop now

  67. Nada takla · 17 October 2014 at 2:47a

Humans perform wonderfull numbers on circus rings .

,Kids are now used to football international events, tennis matches, T.V. heroes ,etc so they are not ammused by wild animal productions any more.
So like many other mothers I firmly suggest to ban these and let our children enjoy wild life on T.V.
