Stop Circus Suffering

Help with Federal Legislation on Traveling Wild Animal Circus Shows!

ADI in the progress of reintroducing TEAPA so that we can continue to lobby for support.

During the last Congress, we steadily gathered cosponsors for our bill to end the use of wild animals in traveling circuses – the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act. With the new Congress, the bill needs to be reintroduced before we can continue with lobbying for support and we are in progress on this.

With the support so far, we have a much stronger base to start applying pressure on Congress to act on the suffering of these animals.  While the elections were in play, we spent a lot of time on garnering local support for performing animal restrictions. So there are a lot of districts where we have been active and people are hearing about the issue.  While we wait for the new bill, you can still contact your Member of Congress and ask them to support legislation to end the use of wild animals in traveling circuses:

      Good afternoon,

Thanks for getting in touch with Break the Chain & Animal Defenders International (ADI). We’d be happy to provide an update.

Regarding the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act, ADI is continuing work to re-introduce the Bill to the new Congress this year. It does take time, but ADI is making progress.

In the meantime, we’d like to ask that you please keep reaching out to your congressional representatives. Sometimes it takes more than one message, so if you’ve already written to them, don’t be afraid to write again.

And if circuses are coming to your town, please help educate the public about the suffering of circus animals. There are many ways to do this, such as passing out materials, sending letters to your local newspapers and TV & radio stations, and organizing demonstrations. Suggestions for ways you can get involved are listed at http://breakthechainus.com/join-the-campaign-2/. To request materials or to ask any questions, please feel free to email usa@ad-international.org.

To answer your question – YES, it’s absolutely worth it to keep up the fight! Just last month, Colombia passed a bill banning the use of wild animals in traveling and static circuses, after eight years of undercover investigations and intense campaigning by ADI with the support of campaigners all over Colombia. So we know it can be done, we just have to be persistent. Your support is essential to making this Bill a success.

Keep up the great work and please don’t give up – together, we CAN break the chain of circus suffering in the U.S.

      Sincerely,

      Break the Chain/ADI
