Stop Circus Suffering

Tell Goldstar to Stop Selling Tickets for Circus Animal Abusers

Online ticket site Goldstar selling discount tickets to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in cities throughout the US.

Online ticket site Goldstar has been selling discount tickets to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in cities throughout the US.  Animal Defenders International has previously written their CEO, Jim McCarthy, to stop selling tickets to the notorious Ringling Bros. Circus and pledge not to support any events where animals are abused for entertainment.

The use of wild and exotic animals in traveling circuses is now globally viewed as inhumane. There are over thirty local ordinances across the U.S. prohibiting or restricting the use of these animals in traveling shows; over 20 countries around the world have similar national legislation and hundreds of local ordinances of this kind are now in place in towns and cities around the world.

Years of undercover investigations reveal that in circuses, wild animals are taken away from their mothers as mere babies and dominated to force them to perform circus tricks. The training tools of the circus trade include bullhooks (a heavy bar with a sharpened point and hook), stun guns and other electric prods, metal bars, whips, deprivation of food and water, and intimidation.

Circuses can’t provide animals with the environment they need to maintain physical and psychological health due to the constant travel where they spend long journeys crammed in trailers and train cars only to end up in cramped living spaces chained or caged in yet another venue parking lot. The abnormal behaviors observed so commonly in these animals indicates that they are not coping with their environment.

Sample email:

“Dear Mr. McCarthy,

I just became aware that Goldstar is selling tickets to Ringling Bros. Circus and I urge you to immediately sever ties with this notorious company and end these ticket sales.

Overwhelming evidence has shown that animals in traveling circuses endure confinement, physical and social deprivation, long, grueling journeys, brutal control methods and physical violence. Keeping elephants in chains, confining wild animals like lions and tigers in small cages, and forcing them to perform unnatural tricks for the sole purpose of human amusement should not be supported by Goldstar.

Again, please do not tarnish your company’s reputation with this horrific animal abuse. Please end the sale of circus tickets and pledge not to peddle tickets for any animal abusers.

Sincerely,”
