7 out of 10 people think the use of wild animals in circuses should not be allowed
Demonstrating the huge support there is for a circus ban in Sweden, a recent opinion poll has shown that 7 out of 10 people think that wild animal acts should not be allowed, reflecting attitudes to this archaic form of ‘entertainment’ across Europe, and indeed worldwide.
There was an outcry in 2013 when ADI revealed footage of elephants Sonja and Vana Mana being abused while on tour in the UK. Soon after Cirkus Scott, where the elephants were being made to perform at the time, announced it would no longer feature wild animal acts – after 76 years of doing so.
ADI is working with Swedish groups for an end to circus suffering. Swedish news site Newsner have got behind a petition calling for a wild animal circus ban created by our friends at Djurens Rätt helping to secure over 25,000 signatures in just one day!
