Northern Ireland council bans animal circuses!
Northern Ireland remains the only country in the UK without a nationwide wild animal circus ban.
On September 2, the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in Northern Ireland voted (31-1) to BAN ANIMAL CIRCUS ACTS! Alliance Councillor Patrick Brown, who tabled the motion, spoke of ADI’s investigations ahead of the vote and “the global trend towards human-centered performances that no longer use animals”. Northern Ireland is the only country in the UK that does not either have a nationwide (wild) animal circus ban in place or one planned. It is therefore encouraging to see local authorities taking decisive action to stop circus suffering.
