The Crown Prosecution Service has today agreed to take on the prosecution of Bobby and Moira Roberts in relation to the mistreatment of their circus elephant “Anne”.

Defra urged to respect will of Parliament and put in place a timetable for phasing out wild animals in circuses

Despite the debate in the House of Commons in June that resulted in a motion directing the Government to ban the use of wild animals in circuses before July 2012, recent Ministerial statements have indicated that Defra intend to pursue a licensing system instead.

Defra must comply with the will of Parliament and ban the use of wild animals in circuses
