Defra response to circus report “does not go far enough to safeguard wild animals”
ADI has today expressed its disappointment that Defra’s response to the report by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee on the draft Wild Animals in Circuses Bill does not go far enough to safeguard the welfare of wild animals in circuses.
No escape from the circus for wild animals despite ban
Defra Minister Lord de Mauley has confirmed to ADI that the Government will press ahead with legislation to ban the use of wild animals in travelling circuses but a loophole will still allow circuses to continue to tour with these animals provided they are not displayed.
Great British Circus cruelty heads to Germany
ADI has expressed its disappointment that a number of big cats are to be subjected to a lifetime of circus suffering, following reports by the BBC that tigers bred in the UK by Martin Lacey, the owner of the infamous Great British Circus, will be sent to his sons’ circus in Germany.
